I have 25 acres, 14 farmed by a tenant, three acres of lawn and the rest wooded with trails.I have to mow in summer and keep my 450' driveway clear of snow in winter plus deal with various maintenace tasks like keeping trails clear.I have been considering a 3010 and a 4300 that I consider to be equivalent. Perhaps I am incorrect.To my surprise, the Kubota is quite a bit less expensive in my area.Is there some great feature or other advantage to the Deere that I am missing?I would greatly appreciate receiving your good and bad opinions and experiences on these and other alternatives. I had the same dilema as you are having in April, 2000. I had both dealers bring out tractors to my property to try. I tested the Kubota 3010 GST and a John Deere 4300 HST. I did some cutting with a 5' cutter on each tractor and felt the JD had more power. Let me say that both tractors are well built and ran very smooth. I also checked around on used tractors and found that the JD's at least in our area have more re-sale value than any other tractor. This was important just in case I want to move up to a bigger tractor in the future.But the main reason I bought the JD 4300 was that I had much more confidence in the JD dealer than I did the Kubota dealer. He cared about my needs and concerns and gave me much more confidence in his product and service. He showed me why his product would do the job and never put any of his competition down. The Kubota dealer did not do that. All he did was tell me why the other products are inferior without telling me why his product was better. By the way, I paid $700 more for the JD than the price I had for the Kubota. Do I feel it ws worth it? Yes, because this tractor has been one of the best purchases I have ever made. I have had no problems and I love my dealer as he has called me every month to make sure all is OK! I guess what I am telling you it is more important to have a good dealer behind you than anything else. I hope this helps you make your decision. ....

I also looked at both tractors. The advantages that the 4300 had over the 3100 were - the hydro had more gpm, the loader had more power, and went on easier (the bucket and the arms), you can use the turning brakes on the JD (the dealer told me you could use the brakes if you had the cruise on. Didn't sound like a good idea to me.) I liked the way that the pedals are set up on the JD also.

I looked at both. One thing to keep in mind is the the GST is not an HST. It will make some difference in the pricing. You still have to clutch the GST. It is a nice setup, though. I went with the 4300 because the forward visibility on the 3010 was not as good as the 4300 and the 3010 just seemed too big for what I was wanting. Looking at specs there isn't much difference in size but the 3010 seemed bigger to me. The shuttle shift on the GST is nice but it just doesn't quite make it an HST. There was about $700 difference in the 3010 GST and the 4300 HST. Comparing HST to HST the price was about the same and lift capacities on the 4300 are higher. ....

I traded a Kubota L2500 for a JD4400 (and agree it's not the same machine -- Hp, hydro, etc.) but am really sold. As has been said many times on this board, the dealer really makes the difference, given they are both the same machine. (Evidently the trannies are not identical) The JD follow up has been SUPERB, both from the dealer and Deere -- But, for you, look at the ease of controls, operation, getting on & off, visability, etc. in addition to the other points mentioned here. If ALL paramenters are equal, go for the dealer. (IMHO) ....

One thing you might want to look at is how many complaints are on this board and others regarding JD and how many for Kubota. Kubota makes more compacts yet I don't see very many complaints. I lliked at this and decided on the 3010 HST with FEL and have been very happy with the tractor and the dealer. Good luck! ....
